8. Children’s Privacy

Our students are children. This section describes what we collect from them, why, and what a parent or guardian can do about it. It applies to every student, and the protections for children under 13 follow the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Parental consent comes first

A child cannot create an account here. Only a parent or guardian can add a child to our platform, and they accept this policy on the child’s behalf when they do. For students under 13, we ask for a separate, explicit consent before a child takes part in a class.

What we collect from a child

  • Name, grade level, and date of birth, entered by the parent
  • A username and password, chosen by the parent, when the parent gives the child their own login
  • Class participation, assignment work, and progress notes
  • Placement test answers and results
  • Video, audio, and transcripts of classes the child attends

We ask for no more than we need to teach the child and to tell their parent how they are doing. We do not ask a child for a phone number, a home address, or their own email address.

What we never do

  • We never sell, rent, or trade a child’s information.
  • We never show advertising to a child, and we do not use their information for advertising.
  • We never make a child give us more information than a class requires as a condition of taking part.
  • We never let students contact each other through our platform.

Who can see a child’s information

The child’s parent or guardian, the teachers and staff who work with that child, and the service providers described in section 2. Nobody else.

What a parent can do

  • Review it. A parent can see everything we hold about their child from their dashboard, or by asking us.
  • Correct it. A parent can edit their child’s details at any time.
  • Delete it. A parent can delete their child’s account, and can ask us to erase their child’s information entirely.
  • Withdraw consent. A parent can refuse further collection at any time. We will stop, and the child will no longer be able to take part in classes.

Use the contact details in section 10 for any of these. We will not ask the child to make the request.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our services or legal requirements. The "Effective Date" at the top will indicate the most recent version. We encourage you to review the policy regularly.
